PUBLICATION ETHICS
Journal of Indonesian Society Empowerment (JISE) is dedicated to promoting ethical publishing practices and academic integrity. To ensure the quality and credibility of each published work, JISE fully adopts the ethical guidelines established by the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE). These guidelines serve as a foundation for responsible conduct by authors, reviewers, and editors throughout the publication process.
Duties of Authors
- Authors must present an accurate and honest account of their research, ensuring that results are reported without fabrication or manipulation. Manuscripts should contain sufficient detail to allow replication of the work.
- Authors are expected to submit entirely original work. Manuscripts should not be submitted to multiple publications simultaneously unless co-publication has been agreed upon. Proper citation and acknowledgment of previous work are required, including direct quotations with appropriate references.
- Submitting the same manuscript to more than one journal concurrently is prohibited. Multiple publications stemming from a single research project must be clearly identified, and the primary publication should be referenced.
- Authors must acknowledge all sources of data used and cite relevant publications, ensuring proper recognition of the contributions of others.
- Authorship should reflect actual contributions to the research. Only those who have made significant contributions to conception, design, execution, or interpretation of the study should be listed as authors. All authors must have reviewed and agreed to the final manuscript.
- Authors must disclose any financial or personal conflicts of interest and provide full transparency regarding funding sources.
- If significant errors are found in a published paper, the author must promptly notify the editor to correct or retract the article.
- If the research involves hazardous materials or human/animal subjects, these should be clearly identified in the manuscript.
Duties of Editors
- Based on peer review reports, editors can accept, reject, or request revisions for manuscripts. Decisions should be driven by the validity of the work and its relevance to the field.
- Editors must ensure that all manuscripts are reviewed for originality and that peer reviewers with appropriate expertise are selected. The editor should explain the peer review process to authors and disclose which parts of the journal undergo peer review.
- Manuscripts should be evaluated based on intellectual content, without bias based on the authors' gender, race, religion, nationality, etc. Editors must maintain editorial independence and integrity throughout the review process.
- Editors must protect the confidentiality of manuscript information and ensure compliance with data protection laws.
- Editors must not use unpublished material from submitted manuscripts for personal research without the author's consent and must avoid conflicts of interest in the review process.
Duties of Reviewers
- Reviewers must treat all manuscript information as confidential and should not share it without the editor’s permission.
- Reviewers should verify that authors have appropriately acknowledged all sources used and should identify any relevant works that have been omitted. If they detect any ethical concerns, they should inform the editor.
- Reviews should be based on an objective assessment of the manuscript’s intellectual content. Feedback should be constructive, aiming to improve the quality of the work.
- Reviewers should maintain confidentiality and avoid conflicts of interest related to the authors or their institutions.
- Reviewers should complete their reviews in a timely manner or inform the editor if they are unable to meet the deadlines. If unable to review, they should notify the editor promptly so another reviewer can be assigned.
